Cincinnati: The Top Places to Visit in One Weekend

Cincinnati, the Queen City, rising from the banks of the Ohio River, a great place to spend a weekend away…

If you’re heading to Cincinnati for a short break, this Top Places Guide will cover everything you need for a weekend of wonder! Let’s begin.

Where to Stay

For art lovers or anyone who wants a quirky place to stay, the 21c Museum Hotel is a great find.

Located right in the heart of Cincinnati, next to the Contemporary Art Center and opposite the Aronoff Center for the Arts, this is an award-winning boutique hotel and restaurant. They have pet-friendly rooms, free Wi-Fi, and a spa. What more could you want?!

If you’re looking for the best-recommended hotel, then the Best Western Premier Mariemont Inn takes the number one spot. It is a boutique hotel with historic charm and excellent customer service. There is a fitness center, restaurant, and pub. What’s more, it is located near to the zoo, the Cincinnati Art Museum, and the Riverbend Music Center. There is also the Mariemont Theater close by.

Where to Eat

Of course, there’s the option of the Metropole restaurant in the 21cMuseum Hotel but there are lots of other great places to eat in Cincinnati.

The Maplewood Kitchen & Bar is a cheery place that has a vibe reminiscent of the West Coast.

If it’s Italian you fancy, then Sotto is perfect! This is a wonderful place that is open on Sunday evenings when many Cincinnati restaurants are closed.

For those of you with a sweet tooth, don’t miss out on sampling Holtman’s Donuts. There’s one on Vine Street and one on Madison Road.

What to See

There’s the Contemporary Arts Center, which is certainly worth a visit. Then there’s Findlay Market in Over The Rhine that has been around since 1855.

Here, you will find a hubbub of stalls, gourmet shops, restaurants, and cafés. At the weekend, there is also an outdoor farmers’ market, which has producers from all over Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky.

The Cincinnati Bell Connector, the tramway, is a fantastic way to get around the city. Vine Street is a wonderful place for a shopping expedition and has lots of independent stores.

Cincinnati has lots of excellent green spaces. In particular, you will find lots of outdoor places along the riverbank.

You can even rent a Cincy Red Bike and take a ride on the cycle lane alongside the river.

For those into structures, visit the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge that leads to Covington. When it was built, in 1867, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world.

It kept this title until 1883 when Roebling then built the Brooklyn Bridge in New York, which became much more famous.

So, as you can see, the home of the “flying pigs” and the famous Purple People Bridge has an array of things to do for the whole family.

Cincinnati is a wonderful place to spend a little weekend getaway!

THE EVENT CENTER THAT HAS IT ALL

In a friendly town, right beside the beautiful Ohio River, sits a magnificent event center that caters to all. Weddings of any size are performed there and it is apparent that The Lawrenceburg Event Center has a mission to relieve their guests of the the stress and anxiety of planning a wedding or special occasion and to make sure that everything goes according to plan for the big day.

The Lawrenceburg Event Center is located on the state lines of Kentucky and Indiana in a quiant town in which everyone seems to know each other. When we arrived with our Big Black Photo-booth, we met Emily, the coordinator. Emily showed us where we would be setting up for Justin and Crystal’s wedding (in an L-shaped lobby by the first banquet hall) and explained to us that “…everything is inside; no matter if it is 100 degrees like today, or raining, there is never an issue.”

Paul Brown Stadium

We were excited when the newlyweds, Matt and Laura, invited us to celebrate with them at Paul Brown Stadium (PBS), home of the Cincinnati Bengals. (Who Dey!)  Sports fanatic or not, Paul Brown Stadium is a beautiful place to hold a wedding. The captivating 62’ glass wall of windows allows for a majestic view of the Cincinnati skyline. From start to finish, the PBS event manager, Rachael, and her staff were very efficient and well-organized. They went above and beyond to make sure that set-up would be easy and seamless. From meeting us at the front gate, to guiding us through the East lounge, the PBS staff made every aspect of our setup a piece of cake.

Thanks to the help of Rachael and PBS staff, the night went on without a hitch; and our photo booth had a non-stop line of guests having the time of their lives. The full memory album, given to Matt and Laura, was the Picture Perfect proof of the great times everyone had. Thanks to Paul Brown Stadium, their wonderful staff, and the newlyweds for choosing Picture Perfect to help capture their wedding day memories!
